What makes Vancouver Island so great?  Many things stand out on Vancouver Island and make it unique.  Some of my favorite’s things are the old growth trees I find everywhere, the arbutus trees common only to some micro environments, endless beaches, the many lakes, hiking and biking trails, marine life, golf courses galore, camping possibilities, marine parks, access to all the gulf islands….  Did I mention the ocean, lake and river fishing?  Yes, we have that too. Where else can you go skiing one day and then mountain biking the next?  With a warmer climate it is green year-round.  Yes- we get rain but that is a trade-off for snow and cold weather and remember the green….  I find its rarely grey here day in and day out….  The island often gets a little sunshine when other places don’t.  Drive about 3 hours and be on one of the best surfing areas Canada has to offer.  What’s not to like, really??

Real estate is fairly reasonably priced in Central Vancouver Island relative to the bigger centers like Victoria and Vancouver or even Kelowna.  It easy to get into a big center should you feel the need to go to one but you have the luxury of easy access to places without all the traffic, hustle and bustle.  The Central Vancouver Island has Nanaimo Airport, two ferry terminals in Nanaimo, an airport in Courteney/Comox, plus easy access to Victoria or Vancouver for those international flights or other ferry options.  There are small ferry terminals all around the island servicing places like Hornby/Denman, Quadra Island, Salt spring, Thetis, just to name a very few.  

So, with easy access, reasonable prices, a great quality of life, why wouldn’t you choose to live here? Parks and Recreation facilities like Nanaimo Aquatic Centre has a beautiful competitive pool, separate wave pool, gym, sauna/hot tub/steam.  There’s another facility in Qualicum and one in Ladysmith.  Nanaimo also has the Beban centre with another pool and facilities.  Lots to do for all ages.
